OUR MISSION
The Lower Price Hill Community School (LPHCS) removes barriers to education, provides instructional and guidance services in a supportive and familiar environment, and assists individuals in meeting their educational and employment goals.

Welcome

The Lower Price Hill Community School (LPHCS) was founded in 1971 by neighborhood parents and grandparents tired of seeing their children drop out of the formal public school system. What started as small GED instructional classes in a basement storage room is today a modern learning facility that encompasses an entire floor of the old St. Michael school building. Our core programs still include one-on-one GED preparation, Adult Basic Literacy, and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) tutoring as well as on-site beginning college classes through collaboration with Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

Keeping with the spirit of removing barriers, all of our programs are free of charge (with the exception of college tuition paid directly to Cincinnati State, which most of our students can fund entirely through Pell and Ohio Instructional Grants) and open to the public. We provide on-site childcare at no charge to those in our programs. We offer transportation assistance using bus tokens we purchase through the Everybody Rides Metro program. We also host a free monthly legal clinic to assist students in removing any barriers to employment that their past record may cause.

In addition to the educational services of our mission, LPHCS runs a thrift store, weekly food pantry, and monthly (last week of each month) soup kitchen. Our students, as well as the greater community depend on these programs to meet basic needs, so that they can continue to concentrate on their education and employment goals.
